I have some issues with Murtha

It was a huge surprise to me that Pelosi is endorsing John Murtha. Because I want to see Speaker (to-be) Pelosi succeed in her post, and truly enforce the ethics rules, it bares the question: Why?
It is no secret that Murtha has pork issues. (Um, not just his obesity, either.) There are serious violations from ABSCAM to endorsing contracts with KSA, a defense company where his brother works and lobbies for.
Murtha and his supporters are crying fowl or worse "swift-boat!!!" Why is pulling out the truth a swift-boat manuever? In a party whose platform was to promote ethics and change, this should be part of our cleansing process.
Clearly, John Murtha has power and power Pelosi wants aligned for the Democrats, but I wonder if she isn't selling herself and us short. Change comes at a high price, maybe it's a price nobody really wants to pay, which to me is why politiking in America just makes me sick!

Everyone has problems with Murtha! The "blue dogs" are barking and the liberals are going to have to listen. These are the guys who won by running on a plan of fiscally conservative policies. It is a hopeful sign that they went with Hoyer and did not cave in to Pelosi. I only wish the Republican leadership had gotten the message the voters sent. What are they thinking putting Trent Lott as Minority leader? He's another old-school politician with serious pork issues.

trent lott is an abomination on many fronts... i believe he was placed in the leadership position by the republican minority to send a clear message to the democrats that there is going to be hell to pay and that they will have a tough road ahead...

i also intensely dislike murtha and was delighted that he didn't win the position he sought... he is a polarizing agent, not a uniter, and is single-minded in his views... there needs to be room for discussion and he leaves none

my view of nancy pelosi is that she was simply playing politics and didn't want to make an enemy of murtha... that would not have served her well... she knew he didn't stand a chance and it all worked out beautifully as far as she is concerned... now murtha is where he belongs... watchdogging the iraq war... and the rest of the party can get behind the social issues that plague our country
