Carl Jung and Dreams

It's been 20 years since my last Psychology class, so I thought I would brush up on Jung. Not to mention that "the sane one" got me going! He seemed genuinely disappointed about the lack of Jungian theory applied to his "Animal House" meets "The Night of the Living Dead" dream.

Carl Gustav Jung was in 1875 in Switzerland. He worked closely with Freud in Vienna until he began to develope his own theories; which were vastly different from Freud in many ways.

Jung developed the theory of the "collective unconsciouness." Simply stated, we all have similar experiences while dreaming. Jung developed dream archetypes which we all share. These are a few of the archetypes:

  • Hero
  • Monster
  • Mother
  • Father
  • Mandala
  • Sacrifice
  • Mask
  • Self

Dr. Jung believed dreams were a direct message from one's unconscious mind; a way of dealing with issues or situations that are unresolved.
