Scratching My Head!

In a brief blurb on CNN today, I heard that the UN's new council on Human Rights was voted in. However, if reform is what the UN was looking for, then why is there a majority of countries with major human rights violations on the council? I have tried surfing around to find more info, but all I could find were vague explainations on this vital change. I am still scratching my head! Kofi-Anin seems to be less in control of the reforms he is trying to impose! What will still stop these countries from protecting one another as they have traditionally done in the past?
Even Amnesty International doesn't have much to say except, at this posting, they are hopeful about the May 9th elections. I was kind of hoping for a bit more outrage! I f you click on the Amnesty International logo, it will take you to the UN site (sorry 'bout that!) and the Council of Foreign Affairs logo will take you to their site. The UN link lists the new countries voted in and how many seats they have obtained.

Goldilocks Picnics With The Bears

Poppa Bear made toasted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup while the ladies chatted. Lil Dragon decided the littlest bed was "just right," and took her nap. For 'zerts we had chocolate cake made by moi. I love visiting the castle! (Especially at lunch time!!!!)

For Pocaroja...

Alas, Pocaroja and KateMonster are fightin' sisters. Poca stopped by the kitchen today to get some "Hittie-nourishment." We gave her lots of love and hugs and I told her to stop by later, if she could, and she can have something to eat. KateMonster doesn't want to take Pocaroja back to NYC with her. Maybe KateMonster's audition will go well and she will feel better later today. I hope KateMonster gets the part and Poca gets a ride back to the big bad city!

I will not play Tug O' War, I'd rather play Hug O' War; Where everyone hugs, instead of tugs, And everyone giggles and rolls on the rug. Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins; everyone cuddles, and everyone wins.

We put on our "Adventure Hats" and away we went!

Samigirl, Momma Bear and I all went treasure finding today! There was a wonderful Open House on Main Street in Shrewsbury today. Samigirl bought some coins (and even got some for free! lil stink!), Momma Bear found a wonderful pin cushion with little Chinese babies for trim (very sweet!) and I, of course, bought two more antique cookbooks. One was publish by the Coca-cola Company in the 1920's and contains some interesting Coca-cola recipes. The other, a 1937 Hershey's cookbook! We had a wonderful time. Momma Bear and Samigirl are perfect companions for "Treasure-huntin'!"

Best advice for Samigirl and her coins

Don't! The best advice we can give for most people about cleaning coins is...don't!We see far more coins ruined by cleaning than we see coins which have been improved by cleaning.Generally speaking coins can not be improved by cleaning them. It is certainly impossible to improve their condition by doing so.We first saw this advice in 1962 edition of Seaby's Standard Catalogue, and it still appears in the same book today, although it is now published by Spink.
If You Have To Ask - Definitely Do Not Clean Them! It's true that if you had to ask about cleaning your coins, how to, or whether to, then the best thing for you to do is nothing. Don't clean them. You will almost certainly not improve them, and you are much more likely to spoil them. To hear from the experts click:

Pennsylvania's Historic Furnaces

Momma Bear and I were a ponderin' today about the significance of Pennsylvania's Historic Furnaces. We truly had little or no clue what they were about. What I found was just really cool! The information has given me insight to how Pennsylvania became the Steel Capitol of the U.S.

During the Colonial and early National periods of America's history, molded or cast-iron articles were the end products of a fairly simple process developed in the ancient world. The raw materials needed--iron ore, limestone, and hardwood forests for charcoal--were all available in the Hopewell area in Pennsylvania. To read a history lesson, click on the photo!

Think About It...

In order to rally people, governments need enemies. They want us to be afraid, to hate, so we will rally behind them. And if they do not have a real enemy, they will invent one in order to mobilize us. Thich Nhat Hanh

Now this is a great movie!

Now I could watch this movie a lot!

Man oh Man...He really is a Dick!

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney is in Eastern Europe, where he angered Russian officials with a speech that accused President Vladimir Putin of backsliding on democracy and trying to intimidate its neighbors. To get some info click or you can click on this.

Before I was a Mom

Before I was a Mom I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.I never thought about immunizations. Before I was a Mom - I had never been puked on.Pooped on.Chewed on.Peed on.I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.I slept all night. Before I was a Mom I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.Or give shots.I never looked into teary eyes and cried.I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep. Before I was a Mom I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.I never knew that I could love someone so much.I never knew I would love being a Mom.Before I was a Mom - I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy. Before I was a Mom - I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.I had never known the warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.And before I was a Grandma, I didn't know that all those "Mom" feelings mo re than doubled when you see that little bundle being held by "your baby"...Send this to someone who you think is a special Mom or Grandma. I just did.And remember that behind every successful mother... Is a basket of dirty laundry.

Actually, that letter may just be for me!

I know they're here, I can feel the icky presence!!

The Battle of Puebla and Cinco de Mayo

In 1862, the United States was in the middle of a civil war. All the South needed was a strong exterior ally and its strengthened cause might have permanently split the United States. A possible exterior ally was closer than Abraham Lincoln liked, as the French Army under Gen. Laurencez was making its way through Mexico.
The French Army was considered the greatest military force on the globe. For nearly 50 years—since the defeat of Napoleon I’s army at the hands of allied forces at Waterloo, Belgium in 1815—it had not known defeat and had recently won victories in Europe and Asia. In 1862, the French landed in Veracruz along with forces from Queen Isabella II of Spain and Queen Victoria of Great Britain. They had come to collect the debt owed to them by Mexico—debts that Mexican President Benito Juarez had officially suspended because the country was essentially bankrupt.

one last thought about families before i go to sleep!

Rosie, my posey...

As I lose my Grandma, you gain a Granddaughter.

As I let go, you get to grab on.

As I care-take, you care-give.

As I grieve, you rejoice.

My dearest friend...I wish for you and Lil Dragon all that I have had with my Gramma. The irony of our journies has been such nourishment for my soul. I LOVE YOU DEEPLY, dear Lao-Lao.

"Grandmothers and grandchildren have a lot in common. They are inclined to straggle behind on walks. They doze off at unexpected moments. They like fancy cakes. They are very fond of cats and know how to talk to them. They are given to falling over. They get the giggles."
~Pam Brown~

"Grandparents somehow sprinkle a sense of stardust over grandchildren."
~Alex Haley~

You know a grandmother is a goner on her grandchild when she:br
~ Nurses every sniffle as if it were life-threatening...
~ Frames all outstanding report cards...
~ Swears that "Goodnight Moon" is her favorite book

If your baby is "beautiful and perfect, nevercries or fusses, sleeps on schedule and burpson demand, an angel all the time"...you're the grandma.
~Teresa Bloomingdale~

For Momma Bear!

From Irish to me...

The Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee
When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the two cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full and the students responded with an unanimous "yes".
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now", said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things: your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions, and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.The sand is everything else, the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first", he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles, or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you."Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand".
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend".

New Album Slams Bush

Pearl Jam's new album titled "Pearl Jam" takes shots at the Bush Administration. Because this album, their 8th, was released today, I have not been able to find any true reviews at this posting. When I hear and find out more, I'll let you all know! Just another band for protest. I cannot imagine pissing this many people off!! hehehehe!

Whatcha gonna do with all that chest inside your shirt???? We're gonna bellow out to the Bush Administration that they suck, that's what!!! They were so amazing! The talent of this group is beyond remarkable. These performers are well educated, ethnic and progressive; not only in the evolution of hip-hop, but intellectually as well. We were at their first US concert on Sunday at Penn State. I don't think a lot of those kids "got" the Bush and Cheney monkey business pictures. (The video showed Bush and Cheney photo ops where they truly did look like chimps!) But we got it...and the song "Where is the Love?" is just so much more powerful live. The message: Tell George Bush to stop all of his shit!!" Amen, BEP!

If you like parodies, you'll love this one! Clic on Pic to see!

Here's what I think of our Assistant Principal!

If he were a girl, I'd call him a c**t! I asked for a favor, and got bureaucratic bull shit!!! I am still reeling from the insensitive jerk's response to my request for Darlin' Daughter to be able to drive to school for the rest of this school year, due to the situation with my grandmother. Appearently, he cannot give us special permission; he has no more permits. Well, that's great, but I didn't ask for a "permit!" Asshole!!!!!! I need to have her drive so I can deal with the crisis we are having! I really don't think it's a whole big deal if she has the permission, but NOT THE FUCKING PERMIT!!!!!! Momma Bear...Truevalueman called the school IMMEDIATELY after I called him. He didn't get thru, so he's trying back tomorrow. WOW!!!
